How Well Do You Know New Zealand?

Can you name all 3 towns/cities our driver Marty visited last week?

…you could say our drivers get some pretty good travel perks…
Picture
Here’s a few clues that may or may not help…
A
  • “If it weren’t for your Gumboots, where would ya be?” This is the town John Clarke’s fictional character and kiwi icon - Fred Dagg - hails from.
  • Did you know gumboot throwing is an internationally recognized sport? The town holds an annual gumboot throwing competition and in 2019 they hosted the World Boot Throwing Championships. Throwers came from as far as Finland, Germany, Scotland, the Netherlands, USA and Tonga to compete.
B
  • This town has an elevator inside a hill! Built in 1919 it is actually a form of Public Transport that links the suburb of Durie Hill with the town centre. You pay for a ride in the lift – or walk up the steep hill!
  • Home of the Cooks Gardens Velodrome - the first proper wooden cycling track in NZ, named after you guessed it, Captain James Cook. It also witnessed Sir Peter Snell's breaking of the World record for running a mile on the adjacent running track in 1962.
C
  • Producing its fair share of big names for the film and television industry, it is the birthplace of Russell Crowe, Antonia Prebble, Karl Urban, Peter Jackson and Jane Campion. Taika Waititi also grew up in the region and Jemaine Clement calls the city home as well.
  • Perhaps making things too easy – this is NZ’s second largest city and home to the second largest wooden building in the world - The Old Government Buildings. (The largest being Todai-ji in Japan). It is also the southernmost capital in the world.

As you can see our drivers have the opportunity to see a LOT of New Zealand, from tiny towns to the intricate backstreets of major cities. Our senior driver Maurie has lost count of the number of times he’s been into Milford Sound and across the Cook Straight, often traveling the length of the country 5-6 times in a Summer season. In fact there are just 2 key towns he is yet to stop and visit in a coach; Takaka and oddly - Westport.

Why one bus company is not like another…why our drivers stick with us (and you should too!)
  • Our luxury Scania high spec vehicles are fitted with all the bells and whistles. They all have air-conditioning, microphones and PA systems. The larger coaches have 2 doors, are fully seat belted and are fitted with DVD players and toilets onboard, leather interiors and USB charging are optional.
  • We deliver excellence. It’s inherent in the delivery of our coaches, our driver expertise, meticulous forward planning and total care for our clients every time. Our reliability is second to none with 24/7 operations staff on call.
  • We take safety seriously. Aside from regular vehicle servicing above and beyond what is required by law, our vehicles are also fitted with GPS and safe driving trackers. These measure speed, safe cornering, heavy breaking and lane changing, using a traffic light system to allocate a score to the driver for each trip they make. It is a useful tool for professional development and driver training, to ensure our guests will always have the safest and most comfortable journey possible.
  • Our highly skilled professional drivers are punctual, respectful, presentable and very competent offering outstanding customer service.
  • We offer competitive pricing, with rates heavily discounted over winter, as well as discounts available for multi-bus and also multi-trip hires.
  • Currently like many tourism operators we are ticking along on a skeleton staff, hanging out for the bubble and boarders to re-open. We understand many people have reservations about committing to travel during such uncertain times and as such are offering full credits, or where applicable refunds, for bookings unable to go ahead as planned due to government changes to travel restrictions.

So whether you have;

a  SPORTS  tournament in New Plymouth
a  SCHOOL  geography trip to Rotorua
a  SOCIAL  history trip to Paihia
a  CAMP  in Thames
a  GALA  dinner in Auckland
a  CHRISTMAS  party in Matakana
SITE  visits with key stakeholders in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty
or a  GOLF  tour around the WHOLE country …

WE CAN GET YOU THERE!!! and chances are we’ve been there before.

With 80+ years of experience on the road, we’re in business for the long haul.
